My team was tasked with editorial pages for the 59th issue of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, which was to be a celebration of the magazine’s legacy as a rule-breaker, redefining beauty norms across race, age, body types, and orientations. Four models would grace the cover: Kim Kardashian, Ciara, Maye Musk, and Yumi Nu, representing the magazine's commitment to smashing stereotypes.

My task was to cook up a killer spread for the magazine's opening—a spread of Editor in Chief MJ Day's heartfelt words for women empowerment as well as a timeline showcasing the magazine’s groundbreaking moments. Because the timeline’s design needed to match MJ Day’s impactful messaging and SI Swimsuit's revolutionary history, I chose shots of the models that were simultaneously powerful and sexy.

COVER FOR ALL

Our augmented reality extension elevated SI Swimsuit's commitment to showcasing diverse representations, while promoting the purchase of this magazine in print. A QR code on the back cover invited readers into an immersive AR mobile experience where our software guided users through a simple process: capturing a selfie, automatically removing the background, and embedding their image onto the cover of this newest issue. This interactive feature empowered readers to personalize their experiences and instantly share their unique cover creations across social media. It was a tech-forward ode to the magazine's mission of inclusivity and empowerment for all.
