My team helped Samsung spotlight its unwavering dedication to environmental sustainability, echoing the strides outlined in their comprehensive 2022 report. Crafting assets tailored for social media, our challenge lay in harmonizing the brand’s key sustainability points with compelling imagery. To achieve this, we juxtaposed captivating visuals portraying natural wonders with Samsung products. Our clients, situated in South Korea, sought visuals that not only highlighted the brand's commitment to sustainability but also visually reinforced their seamless integration of eco-conscious practices within their products and processes alike.

THE GRAVEYARD

Not every idea makes the cut. Here are some of my favorites from our brainstorming, waiting for the chance to resurrect.

BEHIND THE DESIGN:

To illustrate energy efficiency in Samsung products, we included a power outlet. We took care to show a socket commonly found in Europe and Asia, to convey the global distribution of Samsung products.

Meanwhile, the other half of the image shows local action. The wire coming out the socket connects to the stem of a peony, a flower known in South Korea to symbolize prosperity and wealth. This visual suggests that through its commitments to sustainability, Samsung is bringing value to the country of its origin.

BEHIND THE DESIGN:

Little known to the public are Samsung’s efforts in conserving biodiversity and habitat revitalization. The company improved the local ecosystem of Osan Stream in South Korea’s Gyeonggi Province, even bringing back otter species that had previously migrated due to lack of clean water sources.

To illustrate the fruit of Samsung’s efforts, we wanted to juxtapose a river otter with the luminescent colors of their semiconductors.

BEHIND THE DESIGN:

Samsung is a pioneer of eco-friendly tech innovations, having invented breakthrough Super Gap Technology to reduce power consumption while increasing energy efficiency of its semiconductors.

To illustrate this idea, I assembled a variety of Samsung appliances and personal electronics to mimic the Seoul skyline. Matching this vertical height variation on the bottom is the Dolomite mountains in the Alps. Yet another example of how Samsung’s activities in its HQ city can affect natural beauty across the globe.

BEHIND THE DESIGN:

Samsung is a pioneer of eco-friendly tech innovations, not only innovating in-house, but also investing in other companies around the world that seek to bring higher environmental efficiencies in their processes.

To demonstrate this fostering of collaboration across the industry, I matched a close-up image of one of Samsung’s semiconductors with a beehive. Bees are especially known for their astounding collaborative nature and dedication to their hive. Similarly, Samsung fosters a community of like-minded companies to push the envelope on innovation geared towards environmental sustainability.
