Our collaboration with eBay and Nike was an exhilarating journey in commemorating sneaker luminary Sandy Bodecker. Our vision was to curate an experience that fused nostalgia, skate culture, and charitable giving. The solution was a vibrant store-meets-skatepark fusion that embodied the essence of sneakerhead culture. Transforming the Bodecker Foundation’s space in downtown Portland, Oregon, we offered over 250 pairs of rare Nike SB Dunk sneakers at a throwback price of $65—but only if buyers could skate out of the store with them on. Alongside this unique shopping encounter, our curated space showcased branded skateable elements, historical Nike SB memorabilia, and an exhibit chronicling the Dunk's evolution through 31 models.

THE USER JOURNEY

We designed the store to center the user journey, from entry to try-on, purchase, and skate-out. The elongated and narrow layout of the space proved an interesting challenge, as we sought to balance immersive experiences on either sides while infusing visual diversity. Our original blueprint envisioned an immediate entry into a walkable ramp below a striking 3D sign. Complementing this, the opposite side housed a shoe display with paper-cut eBay and Nike logos in vinyl. Further into the store, a try-on bench across from a full-length mirror would project the mirror’s image of the wearer’s feet onto a vintage TV set—a nostalgic touch paired with wheat-pasted posters of captivating Nike skateboarding photography. The sequence seamlessly led from trying on shoes to the adjoining skate ramp section equipped with skateboards, while the opposite side accommodated the cashier. This would be the hallmark moment of the store, challenging wearers to skate in their new shoes and introducing tension to the common sneakerhead practice of keeping shoes hidden away boxes. From there, the space expanded into a community area paying homage to the original Nike SB, adorned with captivating exhibit displays.
